Job Description

Position Description: The C5AD Network Engineer provides design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting functions for physical and virtual voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks in support of the Joint Staff J6 Deputy Director, C4 and Cyber Integration (DDC5I) C5 Assessments Division (C5AD) mission and Persistent C5 Environment (PC5E).

  • Plans network layouts, installs components, and configures services to meet project requirements.
  • Analyzes network topologies, traffic, and capacity requirements for monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting during events.
  • Between project execution events, and as part of the network team, responsible for operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networks of varying classifications, to include implementing security configurations, performing network diagnostics, and identifying required corrective actions.
  • Implement DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) requirements for device operating systems, services and roles.
  • Conduct daily maintenance activities including log reviews and connectivity checks to maintain the infrastructure in a project-ready state; troubleshoot issues
  • Physically install devices in equipment racks and user workspaces
  • Occasionally travel in support of network events, up to six weeks duration per year

Preferred Skills: Candidates should have at least one of the following:

  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) or Network Professional (CCNP) Security Track.
  • Experience in applying security policies and controls (802.1x, ACS, STIGs, encryption devices).
  • Experience with device configurations, security policies, and IP routing in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Proficiency with Linux Firewalls (IP Tables).
  • Proficiency with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) firewall devices, Flex VPN devices, and/or Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN).
  • Experience with wireless networks, radio frequency spectrum, and/or satellite communications.
  • Experience with DoD cyber operations (USCYBERCOM, Navy Fleet Cyber, etc.).
  • Experience in designing data communications networks, federating networks, implementing VLAN separation, and working in virtualized environment (e.g., VMWare, VSphere, Virtual Switch).

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational equivalence is five (5) years of related experience in network analysis and in maintaining and managing computer systems that are used to support multiple computer operations at the same time.
  • Must possess experience in at least two (2) of the following and experience must have been obtained within the past five (5) years:
    • One (1) year experience as a computer systems manager/operator on Microsoft or LINUX based computing environments, employing Windows Server 2012 (or newer), client Windows 7 (or newer), and LINUX operating systems;
    • One (1) year experience managing and working on local area network (LAN) administration, operation, and architecture with a minimum of 30 client systems;
    • Two (2) years' experience working with two of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Python, Perl, Java, Ruby, Visual Basic, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL, and ORACLE;
    • Specific working experience of management of a mixture of Windows and LINUX computing environments;
    • One (1) years' experience integrating and configuring switches hubs, routers, bridges, repeaters, multiplexers and gateways in data communications systems;
    • Must be familiar with virtualization techniques - simulating a hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or network resources.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance and be eligible for Top Secret

  • Certified DOD 8570.1-M IAT Level 2
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
