GDIT's Military Health Solutions is hiring a Communications Specialist to participate in the development, revision, and delivery of internal and external communications materials for the Defense & Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) located at their HQ in Silver Spring, MD. As the traumatic brain injury (TBI) Pathway of Care manager within the Military Health System (MHS), the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) promotes state-of-the-science care from point-of-injury to reintegration for service members, veterans, and their families to prevent and mitigate consequences of mild to severe TBI.

The  Communications Specialist will perform work in all aspects of visual information products to include on-line news magazines, feature articles, news articles, news releases, speeches, scripts, leadership communiqués, web content and the graphic design aspects associated with briefings, special publications, visual aids, brochures, web-based visual information products, and special events/commemoration products. The employee will also provide assistance in monitoring and administering DVBIC’s social media communications tools such as FaceBook, Twitter, and blogs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and writes informational materials and presentations with the purpose of educating and often persuading a diverse audience of internal and external customers and the public regarding DVBIC functions, programs, and initiatives.
  • Use desktop publishing and other software applications, designs complex graphic materials, web content, briefings and video content.
  • Analyze and develops the most effective methods and mediums for dissemination of information; working with technical and functional experts to ensure the accuracy and quality of content.
  • Monitor and analyzes the ongoing effectiveness of current communication efforts within the organization to expand the visibility points of service to increase customers awareness.

Job Requirements

  • 8+ required.
  • 4+ years in related experience preferred.
  • US citizenship required based on customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of oral and written communication and skill sufficient to develop a wide variety of complex written and visual informational materials. Knowledge of technical and professional guidelines applicable to communication initiatives such as libel and copyright laws, Privacy Act implications regarding the release of information, FIAR guidelines, and relevant DoD regulations and practices.
  • Skill in utilizing software applications in the development of communications products such as web design and content, brochures, briefing materials, and marketing tools.
  • Prior experience within the DoD system preferred.
