Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Developer of Responsive Web Applications to join our Cyanobacteria Mobile Application (CyAN) development team, working under a long-term contract to provide scientific modeling, applications, visualization, and computational science support to the US EPA’s Office of Research and Development across the country. The Cyanobacteria mobile application (CyAN) uses satellite imagery for early detection of potentially hazardous algal blooms based on the water color changes in the lakes and rivers of the USA. This project is a highly visible partnership between National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the EPA. The goal of this effort is to create a responsive web application on a cloud platform that replaces existing functionality of an Android mobile application. Telecommuting is allowed

Requirements

Required:

  • Technology skills required: Python Django, Angular, Node.js, CSS, Java, MySQL
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust
  • 1 year of experience developing Python or Angular code building responsive websites or websites that consume web services.
  • Experience working directly with customers / end-users / subject matter experts
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Django web framework
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to customer priorities
  • Ability to mentor developers

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a team across multiple / virtual locations
  • 1 years of experience working in an agile software development framework
  • Web services
  • Cloud (Azure or AWS)
  • Docker, Celery, Flask, Redis
  • DevOps experience on Azure or AWS cloud environments
  • UNIX shell


Responsibilities

  • Develop prototype and production responsive web application user interfaces using Python Django, Angular JS, Node.js, and CSS.
  • Migrate Java web services code and a MySQL database to a cloud-hosted environment.
  • Migrate an existing Python Django website to a cloud-hosted environment.
  • Participate in Agile meetings, facilitate and clarify requirements and user stories, demonstrate progress in regular Sprint reviews. Suggest ideas to improve the application and process.
  • Develop and execute software unit and test cases to test system functionality, performance, security and scalability.
  • Store and version source code using the project version control tool.
  • Deploy to the cloud-hosted environment using DevOps tools.
  • Mentor developers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Engineering, Hydrology or related discipline
  • 5 years of software development experience.
