Job Description

1. Researches, monitors and analyzes intelligence data and makes recommendations based on that data.
 
2. Interpret consecutively and simultaneously in the two official languages of the Organization (English and French), and also from a third language (Arabic), at high-level and very technical meetings.
 
3. Keep abreast of developments in the main areas of the Organization's work and study the subject matter for discussion at specialist meetings.
 
4. Develop and maintain a strong presence in the wider interpretation network (schools and institutions, other international organizations etc.
 
5. Assist the Head and the Deputy Head of Division with all activities related to the provision of interpretation services for TO AFRICOM.
 
6. Act as a team leader for meetings as well as for ministerial conferences or outside meetings.
 
7. Act as an intermediary between the interpretation Division and the organizers to supervise the material and technical organization of the meetings.
 
8. Participate actively in team work of the staff interpreters (such as preparing terminology, providing assessment of Freelance colleagues and feedback for other staff interpreters, providing technical feedback on audio visual equipment…).
 
9. Oversee the interpretation administrative unit in the absence of the Head and the Deputy Head of Division
 
10. provide reliable and coherent interpretation services within different settings, in both of the official languages: from French into English, from English into French and from a third language, Arabic.


11. Participates in special projects as required.
 
12. This position may be required to complete short-term deployments.

Job Requirements

1. 5-8 years of related experience supporting intelligence operations
 
2. At least five years relevant experience as a professional conference interpreter in an international and intergovernmental context
 
3. Experience as a teacher and examiner in interpretation schools or institutes would be an advantage

4. Must possess both written and verbal translation with a focus on the use of technical, intelligence related and SME technology. 
 
5. Must be able to speak both French and Arabic. Must be a level 4/4 in regards to reading and writing in both French and Arabic. 
 
6. Knowledge of the principles, methods, processes, and applicable regulations involved in intelligence analysis. 
 
7. Outstanding oral and written knowledge of the Organization's official languages (English, French and Arabic) and proven interpreter competence in all three. 
 
8. Knowledge and interpreter competence in another language relevant to the Organization's work (e.g.  German, Portuguese, Spanish) is a requirement.
 
9. Specific certifications or military education/training may be required, depending on job assignment. 
 
10. Ability to communicate clearly orally and to draft concisely and convincingly in both official languages of the Organization.
 
11. Must have a strong attention to detail. 
 
12. Must have a positive, can-do attitude. 
 
13. Interpersonal skills: teamwork, cooperation, relationship-building.
 
14. Personal attitudes: initiative and responsibility, sense of continuous improvement, concern for quality, punctuality, adaptability, discretion, self-management and development.
 
15. Ability to serve a wide range of high-level clients effectively.
 
16. Must possess and maintain a US Secret Clearance and be eligible for upgrade to TS/SCI.
 
17. Must achieve and maintain the Technical Expert Status Accreditation (TESA) as defined in the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany. In order to qualify for TESA, the candidate must have one of the following: Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of specialized experience, OR; An Associate's degree plus 7 years of specialized experience, OR; A major certification plus 7 years of specialized experience, OR; 11 years of specialized experience.
 
18. The work is typically performed at client site locations, which requires proper safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.
