GDIT has a future opportunity for a full time Robotics specialist to support research for our client in Atlanta GA.  In this position you will support all matters related to robotics in the modern laboratory including sample preparation activities.  The incumbent will contribute to development and improvements required for new methods or processes where robotics will increase accuracy, throughput and reduce re-work, reduce occupational musculoskeletal disorders, improve workplace safety and reduce injuries.  This work is augmenting the study of influenza and possibly other viral and bacterial diseases.  In this role you will be involved in execution of ongoing studies and support for related ongoing public health surveillance and response activities.  To succeed in this you should be familiar with laboratory robotics, design, capabilities, and regulations required to support development and application of updated laboratory methods.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with the application of these capabilities to the study of infectious disease pathology, therapeutic agent and vaccine development, and diagnostic development and validation.  In this role you will serve as a member of a team including scientists, technicians, and infrastructure departments.  A working knowledge of compliance with CLIA, GLP, ISO, and other industry standards, best practices and experience working in regulated laboratory environments is strongly preferred.  The position is located on the CDC Roybal Campus, Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Collaborate and advise CDC staff in the design, setup, and validation of robotics to aid studies of influenza disease to support virus characterization, vaccine development and manufacture, therapeutic evaluation, diagnostic test development and validation, epidemiological studies (including zoonotic disease) and disease surveillance.
  • Conceive, design, and perform innovative and creative use of multi sourced robotics e.g. TECAN Infinite M200
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Provide routine and/or specialized robotics advice and assistance.
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders in the development and application of robotic solutions
  • Assist in the development, review, revision and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to robotics issues
  • Mentor staff on appropriate methods and practices in the use of Robotics
  • Maintain detailed and up to date records of all projects and related laboratory validation studies
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues, such as delays, internal and external road blocks to leadership and recommend mitigation approaches in a timely manner.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for process and method improvement and communicate to CDC and GDIT management.
  • Maintain a high quality of excellence across all technical areas of responsibility.
Required Capabilities
  • BS in engineering or related discipline with 2+ years' overall engineering experience
  • 1+ years of experience in robotics including development and implementation
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skill
Preferred Capabilities
  • Experience in Robotics assembly from parts delivery to working model delivering laboratory needs
  • Ability to merge platforms from differing suppliers
  • Experience in scientific research
  • Experience in working in Public Health
