Job Description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) has an opening for an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) with strong communication and technical skills that will manage the security of information systems assets and the protection of systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction in support of the Department of Commerce Enterprise Security Operations Center (ESOC) and the NOAA Cyber Security Center (NCSC).  The ESOC provides cybersecurity monitoring and situational awareness across the DOC, and in the future will likely expand to provide security services to other agencies in the DOC. The NCSC provides cybersecurity support across four major functional support groups; the NOAA Security Operations Center (SOC), NOAA Computer Incident Response Team (N-CIRT), System Administration Staff (SAS), and Enterprise Security Solutions (ESS).

The candidate must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain Department of Commerce vetting clearance.

Specific roles & responsibilities for the position include but not limited to the following:

  • Prepares, maintains, and implements a Computer Security Plan that accurately reflects the security protection measures for each classified information system for which he or she is responsible.
  • Works closely with the System Administrator to maintain the system's security and accreditation status.
  • Ensures implementation of these security measures by conducting security reviews and system tests.
  • Implements site procedures for marking, handling, controlling, removing, transporting, sanitizing, reusing, and destroying media/equipment containing classified information.
  • Is responsible for changes to the classified system components, environment, and location, including temporary relocation to another classified area.
  • Serves as a resource to users for all questions concerning classified systems.
  • Verifies users' access requests are approved; controls users' access.
  • Ensures users are instructed on the appropriate use of computer systems.

Additional responsibilities may include but not limited to the following:

  • Manages the security of information systems assets and the protection of systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.
  • Recognizes potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises thorough reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information.
  • Perform preliminary forensic evaluations of internal systems.
  • Interfaces with client to understand their security needs and oversees the development and implementation of procedures to accommodate them.
  • Ensures that the user community understands and adheres to necessary procedures to maintain security.
  • Weighs business needs against security concerns and articulates issues to management and/or customers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Provides guidance in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and other similar documentation
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
