Job Description

The Office of the Sergeant at Arms, Emergency Management Division (EMD) manages preparedness, exercise and continuity programs for the U.S. House of Representatives (House). GDIT seeks a qualified professional to provide emergency preparedness and planning support for EMD, including developing and delivering preparedness briefings, conducting outreach efforts, managing training databases and supporting life safety drills and continuity of operations (COOP) exercises. The ideal applicant will have at least one year of emergency management experience and must be comfortable with public speaking.  All work will be performed at the customer site on Capitol Hill.

Responsibilities

  • Support exercise program, including capturing planning meeting minutes, developing exercise documents, participating in and/or evaluating exercise conduct, and writing after action reports
  • Attend other meetings as requested, write detailed notes, and disseminate to stakeholders
  • Develop emergency preparedness training and outreach materials, including PowerPoint presentations, training documents, graphics, and other informational products
  • Provide emergency preparedness briefings to staff in classroom and office-based settings; provide training highlighting life safety features of select Capitol Hill buildings to staff groups
  • Perform data entry and maintain training records
  • Support Congressional Office Emergency Coordinator (OEC) program: Schedule trainings, facilitate registration to classes and events, track course completion against certificate requirements, provide reviews of individual office emergency plans, and handle requests for preparedness and planning information
  • Write articles for emergency preparedness newsletter; assist with editing and formatting as needed
  • Serve in emergency operations center during activations
  • Perform other duties as needs arise

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of emergency preparedness/emergency management experience.
  • Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance required; Active TOP SECRET clearance preferred.
  • Required education: Bachelors with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Desired education: Masters.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills; graphic design experience a plus.
  • Public speaking and briefing skills required; experience training and/or briefing emergency management content a plus.
  • Data entry skills required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Publisher, Visio), WebEOC, and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign a plus.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, identify recurring patterns and report discrepancies.
  • Comfort with technology and ability to quickly learn new systems and platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
