GDIT is hiring a Project Engineer- Biomechanics to support clinical research within the orthopedic department located at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) in VA.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for performance and analysis of biomechanical tests that enable new biomechanical research advances. They will acquire an overview of PI initiated research and will test methods and best practices before employing and further developing new test concepts and set-ups and will gain expertise in the field of biomechanical test methods for research projects primarily involving the MTS Biomechanical testing apparatus.

Project Engineer Duties:

  • Responsible for coordinating biomechanical testing activities at the NMCP Bioskills lab.
  • Utilize/Manage design controls within the NMCP Bioskills lab.
  • Interface with clinical PI to gather input for the design evaluation of new clinical research projects.
  • Develop test methods and fixtures for prototype as well as for design verification and validation testing/steadily strive for state-of-the-art test and analysis methods as well as test equipment
  • Develop verification and validation protocols and technical reports.
  • Assist with grant writing and editing.
  • Utilize knowledge of the surgical procedure in order to develop innovative solutions to solve/satisfy the PI needs.

Job Requirements

  • 0-2 years of related experience in scientific research and analysis.
  • Previous professional experience in laboratory environments, including, but not limited to, experience testing medical products, mechanical components or biomaterials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanics and biomechanics, lower and upper extremity preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD design package or another computer aided drafting software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the medical device industry and its regulatory requirements preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, have a hands-on approach and capability to work independently with first experience in project management.
