Job Description

This resource will serve as the USPS 508 Accessibility and WCAG Specialist and Technical advisor/authority to assist in compliance with Section 508 requirements. The specialist will assist the USPS 508 Coordinator evaluate and recommend accessibility policies and procedures on electronic and information technology that meet agency Section 508 requirements for accessibility by employees, postal patrons and members of the public with disabilities seeking USPS information.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Support USPS 508 Accessibility and WCAG policies and procedures under the direction of the USPS 508 Coordinator
  • Review and access Voluntary Program Accessibility Template (VPAT) provided by USPS vendors on behalf of the USPS 508 Coordinator.
  • Review and access software, hardware and electronic products provided by USPS vendors to insure compliance with 508 Accessibility and WCAG statues and guidance
  • Provide guidance to USPS personnel responsible for specifications, designs, project implementation and acquisition of technology to insure compliance with 508 Accessibility and WCAG statues and guidance
  • Provide guidance to USPS vendors to educate/remind them of the responsibilities to provide software, hardware and services that are accessible to the impaired-disabled

This program only accepts US citizens and/or Green Card Holders.  The security clearance for this program requires the selected candidate to have resided in the US for the past five years and not have left the country for longer than 90 consecutive days.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and support 508 Accessibility and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines(WCAG) issues sufficient to insure compliance to all federal statues and guidance
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written 508 Accessibility and WCAG issues to vendors, employees, contractors and the general public sufficient to insure compliance to all federal statues and guidance
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures that enable potential problem/issue detection and avoidance in the acquisition of 508 Accessibility and WCAG products and services
  • Knowledge of the impact of the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) as the functional criteria for ICT2017 including Desktop, Mobile, Web and Self-Service platforms
  • Knowledge of Architectural Barriers Act(ABA) and Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA) 2010
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Strong Project Management Experience

Desired qualifications:

  • Successful completion of the Department Homeland Security Trusted Tester Program
  • Previous federal, state or local governmental work related experience is 508 Accessibility and WCAG compliance
  • Ability to create and/or conduct Accessibility-508 sessions to a variety of USPS organizations.
  • Ability to manage current corporate training initiative for Accessibility and recommend appropriate training in the future.
  • IAAP Certifications including Certified Professional Accessibility Specialist [CPACC] or Web Accessibility Specialist [WAS
