Job Description

Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.

Software engineer needed for designing and building applications.  The engineer will be a Part of a dynamic team responsible for designing, building and maintaining revolutionary tools for search and discovery applications.  The engineer will have solid development experience with an interest in operationalizing new tools and technologies. Interest/experience in semantic technologies, linguistic processing, recommendation systems, and/or machine learning a big plus. The engineer should be an advocate for best practice methods of coding, design, and hands-on work.

Basic Qualifications:

This role will require hands on technical skills, with prior experience developing using one or more of the following technologies:

  • Java; Java frameworks, including Spring and Spring Boot and Hibernate.
  • Experience developing and consuming REST web services for an operational/production environment
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical skills
  • Experience with Agile toolsets, such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Demonstrated experience documenting process and procedures
  • Available for occasional off hours support


Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (including RDS, CloudFormation, SNS, SQS, ElastiCache, CloudWatch, Dynamo and EMR)
  • Experience with Hadoop or Spark
  • Experience using Gradle, Docker and Jenkins as part of basic DevOps practices.
  • Experience with Scala and Akka Streams
  • Experience with a variety of search technologies (e.g. Lucene, Solr, Elasticsearch)
  • Experience with machine learning technologies
  • Experience with JMS and other messaging technologies
  • Experience with MySQL and Dynamo
  • Experience with the ELK stack
  • Demonstrated experience with Python and Bash scripting
  • Experience working the GIT

1. Leads the research and development of new software products and applications on the leading edge of established knowledge and standards.

2. Conceives, designs, prototypes, and tests new methods, algorithms, and models.

3. Defines architecture requirements and performance standards to meet or exceed management and customer specifications.

4. Identifies and directs resolution of complex hardware/software interface issues.

5. Advises hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements.

6. Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress, and presents results to management and/or customer personnel.

7. Serves as the primary customer interface to resolve problems and ensure requirements are met on a timely basis.

8. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced software engineers, and may have supervisory responsibilities.

9. Serves as a technical team or task leader.

10. May provide expertise to multiple projects and tasks.

11. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

12. Participates in special projects as required.

Job Requirements

15-20 years of related software development experience.
