Job Description

GDIT is hiring a WebSphere Engineer will have responsibility for integrating multiple applications in a shared VOE environment for the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The integrated WebSphere environment will be a shared enterprise environment that supports the DHA in its mission of providing health care for the US Military.  The qualified individual will be responsible for WebSphere Server installation, deployment, configuration, integration, and maintenance on AIX platform. He/She needs to create systems and technical guides and be able to suggest and / or follow technical decisions for complex information systems. Lead the Production support of Integrated Applications in an ITIL centric and virtual environment. Perform engineering studies and install new versions of the applications.  Be able to troubleshoot complex application and networking issues. Be available for after-hours and weekend support as needed to ensure high availability for Production Servers.

  • Design, Install, and Maintain WebSphere 10.x / IBM HTTP Server on AIX environment, works with client and other teams to implement and resolve application issues
  • Lead the Production support in an ITIL centric environment
  • Provide guidance at expert level in performance tuning of WebSphere application server
  • Apply vendor recommended security patches
  • Writes Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Product Insertion Guide, and Software Suggestion and Recommendation white paper
  • Perform research and provide improvements to applications and their function
  • Perform Security reviews and mitigation for WebSphere/IBM HTTP Server installations
  • Create processes, templates, and tools to ensure consistent application, evaluation, and use of architecture best practice
  • Define and implement application level architecture design
  • Trouble-shoot production systems and perform Root Cause Analysis of complex issues
  • Work in coordination with WebSphere Engineers to lead the Production support of Applications in an ITIL centric environment
  • Write specifications, how-to documentation, test plans, test reports, and best-practices
  • Provide operational support for web and application systems
  • Monitor web services to ensure user needs are responded to on as needed and the systems are meeting ongoing business needs
  • Troubleshoot on reported issues
  • Provide support on users help desk issues at a T3 level
  • Effective writing and communication skills
  • Requires working in a 24 x 7 Production support environment and willingness to work on weekends and weeknights

Job Requirements

  • 10-15 years of directly related experience in systems administration and analysis.
  • Possesses strong understanding of web-tier and associated technologies
  • Possess expert knowledge of WebSphere 10.x, IBM HTTP Server for the AIX environment.
  • Possess experience with integrating WebSphere/IBM HTTP server with Business objects
  • Installation, configuration of WebSphere, IBM HTTP server and upgrade experience
  • Requires knowledge and troubleshooting experience of AIX, Protocols and networking services
  • Possesses knowledge of WAS/IHS administration in Windows and AIX
  • Requires competency in all phases of the life cycle, systems analysis techniques, concepts and methods
  • Maintenance, Deployment of Business Objects application files (EAR and WAR file deployments) to WebSphere
  • Experience with Performance analysis and configuration management
  • Hands on Experience in enabling the security using LDAP
  • Experience in supporting production applications in 24 x 7 environment
