Customer has an immediate need for a Subject Matter Expert Storage Engineer. The primary focus of this position is designing and implementing an enterprise level storage and backup that support customer's current and new hosting environments. The engineering design must be flexible and scalable to support both bare-metal and cloud hosting infrastructure. The secondary focus of this position is designing and implementing an enterprise level security to protect the storage layer. This position will serve as the SME Storage Engineer to create and deliver the engineering design and implementation plan for an enterprise level infrastructure with appropriate security layer of protection to satisfy the highest security level. This role is expected to conduct research and analysis to provide a recommendation for the suitable security technology to protect the new hosting environment; then deliver the engineering design and execution plan to implement the chosen cloud technology. This role is expected support the transition and migration of the data and application from the legacy hosting environment to the new hosting environment.

This role requires someone with proven experience and track record to be able to learn new technology quickly and master it -demonstrates the can-do attitude.        The successful candidate will need to demonstrate in-depth understanding and outstanding on-the-job experience with storage and backup technologies. The candidate must demonstrate on-the-job experience designing, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting with different storage and backup problems.

The selected candidate will be expected to know how to both craft and drive good requirements and specifications documentation.       The selected candidate will be expected to quickly self-learn new technologies and passionate when it comes to making technical breakthroughs and solving complex problems.            The selected candidate will need to have a diverse networking background, strong hands-on technical experience, organizational and interpersonal skills working as part of a team and at times in a highly autonomous manner, mentoring others as needed.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with engineering and implementing SAN and NAS technology along with the different protocols for each storage technology
  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with creating LUN and WWN
  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with Fiber Chanel switch and enterprise storage array configuration and management
  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with storage management, monitoring, and SRM tools sets and proven ability in problem solving techniques
  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with engineering, operating and maintaining the enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
  • Demonstrated on-the-job knowledge and experience with virtualization in developing and implementing complex virtualization systems and the automatic provisioning of different components (e.g. VMWare, Hyper-V, Xen, etc.)
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding of different platforms: Linux and Windows
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding of networking (routing and switching)
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding of all phases of the System Engineering Life Cycle; and the ability to comprehend user business needs and concerns and integrate that understanding with technical skills
  • Demonstrated excellent Tier 1 -3 storage and backup troubleshooting

Optional Skills:

  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience with resolving complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design considerations
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding of the following infrastructure principles: fault tolerance, high availability, scalability and capacity planning, and data center organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments
  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience with establishing and defining system engineering standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate discussion among people with differing backgrounds and opinions and lead to consensus
  • Demonstrated excellent ability to collaborate with other IT disciplines (e.g. Network, Platform, Middleware, and Application) to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems
