Job Description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking highly motivated technical professionals who are eager to play a major role in IT transformation at Government agencies in the aviation and other transportation fields.

This is a telework position. Onsite support will be required as requested by customer

The Telecommunications Engineer will lead the program’s telecommunications and telephony systems team and will perform as follows:

  • Analyzes voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices
  • Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments
  • Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements
  • Analyzes network performance with network management tools
  • Conducts capacity planning and performance engineering as well as modeling and simulation
  • Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications requirements, designs and orders
  • Provides in-depth engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives for Government agencies in support of their strategic modernization efforts
  • Provides telecommunications enhancement designs for medium and large-scale telecommunication infrastructures
  • Provides interface support to telecommunications end users, telecommunications operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management
  • Supports telecommunications infrastructure using technology, and telecommunications engineering best practices - Transport Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), routing protocols, LAN switching, Internet and Intranet systems, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
  • Leads design efforts that require in-depth technical knowledge of both wide area and local area communications
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participates in special projects as required

Job Requirements


  • 3 – 5 years of directly related experience in Telecommunications Engineering
  • CCNA certification required
  • Considerable demonstrated hands-on experience with telephony technologies – ACD, IVR, IP PBX, VOIP, SIP
  • Considerable demonstrated knowledge and experience with TCP/IP, routing protocols, SNMP
